Comedy

Of late a plethora of comedy reality shows have hit the airwaves....Comedy Circus, Laughter Challenge, Comedy Champion and another combination you can think of! When these shows first started, there were mainly 2 of them and they were really good...you could laugh the whole time, but have noticed that nowadays, the quality has really gone down. I watch an entire episode in the hope of having a good time and barely manage a smile at the end! In fact, with so many shows on air, and most of the contestants being on all the shows, the jokes get repetitive. Another problem is the participants being from all over India and Pakistan, which is a good thing mind you, at times start cracking jokes in their native languages (Punjabi,Urdu etc) and you are completely lost!

What I realised is the age old funda that to make someone laugh is one of the hardest things to do! I know, I had tried it a couple of years back, when I had participated in a speech contest and had tried to make ppl laugh (had blogged about it as well)...man it was tough! But recently had gone to an event where people of the local church had organized a comedy night and there was some stuff on the lines of Whose Line is it anyway and they were really good! An example: Participants were asked to say things you could say to your dog but not ur girlfriend. One of the dudez comes forward and says "Roll Over!!" :-D That was an evening well spent :-)

Anyways, the reason for suddenly writing about comedy? Was watching Hera Pheri (yes part 1 for the umpteenth time!) and it still managed to make me laugh! And more importantly, reminded me of the day when we had gone to watch it during our college days...was one of the G8 theatres in Bandra...and we had bought tickets in , er black! and once inside we realized that we had got seats scattered all over the place and in fact 2 were for the next show :-D but once we settled in , I still remember the whole crowd was laughing hysterically and I actually had an aching stomach and could not laugh any more!! Sadly, such movies don't seem to be made any more nor are the good ol' college days coming back! :-(
